What is Sweetfields Farm?
Sweetfields Farm is a family-owned farm in Masaryktown, Florida, that offers a variety of attractions and activities for all ages. Young by farm standards, Sweetfields began in 2008 on an empty plot of land dotted with oak trees. The land is farmed using organic and sustainable practices.
Things to Do at Sweetfields Farm
When you visit Sweetfields Farm, you can explore a variety of typical farm activities as well as many unusual games. The main draw is the 6-acre maze which features sunflowers in the spring and corn in the fall. Bring the entire family to enjoy a day in the country with local produce, a playground, picnic tables under the oak trees, and lots of farm animals.
Sunflower Maze at Sweetfields Farm
The sunflower maze at Sweetfields Farm is the main attraction. In the maze you can enjoy the beauty of nature while challenging yourself to find your way out of the 6-acre maze. Filled with bright yellow flowers that create a cheerful and relaxing atmosphere, the sunflower maze is made of narrow trails among the tallest of the sunflower varieties. Most of the stalks stand more than seven feet tall.
Once inside the maze, visitors have to answer random trivia questions which are clues to the correct path. Answer incorrectly and you’ll soon find a dead-end. The sunflower maze is a fun activity for friends and family, who can work together to solve the puzzle and reach the exit.
U-Pick Flower Fields at Sweetfields Farm
Another attraction of Sweetfields Farm is the u-pick flower fields, where you can choose and cut your own fresh flowers. The fields offer a variety of flowers, such as zinnias, sunflowers, wildflowers, and more. Create your own bouquets and arrangements, or just enjoy the colors and scents of the flowers. The farm provides cutters so there’s no need to bring your own, and for a couple of dollars you can purchase a mason jar in which to add water to keep the flowers fresh on their way home.
Farm Animals
A visit to Sweetfields Farm would not be complete without meeting the farm animals, who are friendly and adorable. When we visited, Tom the turkey met us at the entrance gate. Beside the entrance to the sunflower maze, a tortoise enjoys the sun, treats such as fresh vegetables, and helps to educate visitors about his species.
One of the most popular animals is Rosie the cow, who is the star of the farm and loves to pose for pictures. With her stall beside the entrance and exit to the maze, kids love to see her and pet her. She even has her own Facebook account. Other animals include the miniature donkeys, chickens, and other turkeys.
Games
Sweetfields Farm also offers a variety of games for visitors who want to have some fun and excitement. The games include Farm Foos Ball, where you play a giant version of the classic table game with soccer balls and your friends or family as the players. The games also include peddle car races, where visitors can ride on pedal-powered cars and compete on a track.
The kids can enjoy human-sized hamster wheels, where they roll large tubes up and down straight tracks and race each other. There is a basketball hoop set up near the sunflower maze, and several pitcher pumps. Kids delight at pumping water faster than the others to fill buckets and other containers. Of course, there’s also a playground in the shade of giant oak trees.
Other Things to Do at Sweetfields Farm
There’s so much more to do than just the sunflower maze at Sweetfields Farm, the animals, and the games. Buy fresh produce, honey, jams, and other goodies at the farm shop. Or visit the wall of positivity, where you can write and read inspiring messages and spread some good vibes. Of course, there are great photo opportunities all over the farm, including a couple of love seats tucked within the sunflowers. And when you’re hungry or thirsty, grab a slice of pizza, a popsicle, juice, or a glass of wine.
